Motorola DROID 2 Global software update available now

For you DROID 2 Global owners out there, software updates may be something you’re still excited about, but just a bit too jaded at the same time. That’s perfectly understandable. But, thanks to the fine folks at Motorola who want nothing more than to keep on trying to make you happy, we’ve learned that the newest software update for the DROID 2 Global is available now.

The software build is 4.5.608, and it’s now being rolled out over the air. Yes, that means in phases, so it’s not going out to everyone in one lump sum. However, if you are too anxious to get your hands on it, you can always head into the Settings of your phone and pull down the update on your own time. There’s a full list of the changes and enhancements just below.

The software update is beyond miserable. I can't use the space bar when I'm texting and the Internet force closes 90% of the time. I even asked Verizon in an email about it (among other things) and the issue was never addressed. It's nearly pointless to even have. Help!!

I can't begin to list all the bugs in this latest release, is there a revert to earlier release button?

At first I thought it was my phone. So far Motorola/Verizon have replaced my Droid 2 Global TWICE because of the errors I eventually realized are springing up AFTER my phones update themselves. Last night my NEW phone updated ITSELF without prompting me. I am so frustrated right now it's not even funny ... Can someone PLEASE tell me how to either roll back the update or keep my phone from updating itself automatically??? Thanks.

Is there anyway to go back to before the GB update? I got it in beginning of september, and I have had so many issues with it since, my phone reboots, i cant use period or question marks in my text (freezes phone), multi touch keyboard for closes (like alot of other apps), my battery life sucks. It was working fantastic before I got the update in september and the one last week. Oh I am using Droid 2G  4.5.608     2.3.3     I need to figure out how to delete that update, theres gotta be something?

My D2G also reboots on its own...seems to happen when the signal is very weak.  The update changed a picture on one of my shortcuts and I can't get it to change back.  Also, did not get incoming text messages for 48 hours--this totally ticks me off.  But I have to admit--the battery life is longer--noticed that right away.

This update is pretty much garbage all around. Its a nightmare all around. Force close applications, changes screens on its own. Bluetooth doesn't communicate with the ear piece. How do I UNinstall this???

My settings look very "cheap" and "old school" since my update. It certainly doesn't look or operate as properly as it should for a product of our day and age. I am very disappointed. Tired of having my amps being forced closed after only a few minutes.

my bluetooth doesn't work now...it had worked fine for months before the update...my bt earpiece was paired but not connected so i decided to remove it and reinstall it (after several shut-downs and battery removals)...but now it won't even see it when searching for devices...i have an a2dp bt earpiece which is also paired w/ my itouch and that connection works just fine so it's not my bt device, has to be the droid2 global...anyone else run into this?

I fixed the problem of the screen going blank on phone calls that I posted about earlier. My screen protector was causing the problem. I removed the screen protector and the problem went away! What I ended up doing was cutting about 1/8" off the TOP of the protector (to just below the speaker opening) and then installing the protector. The phone now works fine and does not go irretrievably blank when a phone call is connected.

Thanks JD. I had the same problem after the update and your suggestion worked great!!!!!

Thanks for posting this, who would think that a screen protector would cause so much havoc.  My wife and my sanity have been saved.

My screen protector is already cut to just below the speaker opening, and I have the same freeze-during-a-call problem that you had. ??

Can anyone tell me when the fix will come out.  My Droid2 Global reboots itself for no reason.  Unfortunately there is no consistent scenario to pinpoint.  It has done it while waking up (sliding open and close), returning to a previous screen with the back arrow and even during unlocking it.

I downlaoded my update Friday. My phone was working great before the update. Now the screen goes blank when I get an incoming call or make a call out and I cannot get it to come up using the power button. I have to wait until the other person hangs up before the screen unfreezes and returns to normal. This is a big problem with both voicemail and calls where you need to enter a number after the call is made to continue. No screen means you can't enter your password for voicemail or enter any sort of number to route the call. Anyone else seeing this problem? Also don't care for the graphics on the update - to hard to read. I think the screen alphabet and numbers are actually smaller now which makes texrting more difficult!

Mine downloaded the update but somehow the update process did not start.. not sure what is going on.. Last time i got the 2.3 update, it just downloaded the updated and started installing the update.

i just updated mine, and i have a display of all of the home profile screens over everything i try to do.. did this happen to anyone else?!

I can't send text messages...my phone now hangs up in the middle of a phone call...the scroll sticks and freezes...the blue tooth is worse I now have to call someone twice to make a phone call and the copy and paste fiction doesn't have s clipboard. (Or I can't find it)

After the update yesterday, my phone froze and restarted at least 5 times from various page displays.  Another new problem- whenever the phone is held in upright display (vertical orientation and keyboard not opened) the display goes blank as if it timed out, but I was in the middle of using the screen.  If the keyboard is opened, the previous problem doesn't occur.  If Motorola is going to change a very important piece of my private property, it should be mandatory for Motorola and Verizon to ensure I know what the changes will be, why, and options to opt out if it malfunctions.

Any way to put it back? I really don't like some of the changes!

mine updated yesterday and now won't show my sd card memory

Same problem here.

Same here, how does this get fixed!

Same here wont show i have a sd card and verizon wont replace, bought new sd card and that wasnt the problem. it worked fine before the update now i can't save anything take pics use pics wont save aps i had etc. The update ruined my phone and i am stuck with it and all i can do is use the internet and make calls. Can't save birthdays or anything else in it because it says the sd card is not mounted etc.

Same happened here, so Verizon wont replace phone?

Mine is updating now...

sofar i cant get mine to update successfully it fails

Well, you're lucky! At first I thought it was my phone.
