The Dream Phone Concept [Video]

This concept idea originally came from the idea of building custom computers from their base components. A huge community of technology enthusiasts is familiar with the process of picking a computer’s processor, graphics card, motherboard, etc. to fit a budget and a purpose. What if this type of flexibility was available in mobile phone technology?

While mobile or tablet internals may not offer the same flexibility that we’d like to have in the externals, it’s a pretty neat concept to think about considering how far both mobile phones and desktop computers have come in the past decade. Even if full customization isn’t available the way it is described in the above video anytime soon, think of the possibilities of a simple hardware modification in a current generation devices like a RAM upgrade.

What do you think? Is this a realistic expectation in the next, say, 5 years of rapidly improving mobile device technology? Your comments are appreciated!

everything's changing fast now...but I am still contented with Android..though I have to say the concept is better but what's new about that??...technologies changing, unstoppable....

i thought of this idea when i was 12 lmao.. im now 16... its kinda pathetic that people are just thinking of this especially when these ppl are like 21 y/o..smh

I would love to see this, with all of the new technologies that are coming out though, I could see running into an endless amount of patent issues. In a perfect world where those don't exist, I think we have the ability to do this now.

Here is my spec list for a dream phone at this point in time if I could just go in and pick each component: # Ice Cream Sandwich # A chassis a bit like the N1 with the power button on the top-left edge but without the capacitive buttons and a slim bezel all the way around # 3.5 mm headphone jack on the top too. # An LED notification light with custom colors (trackball not required) # Battery charge LED # 1.5 Ghz duel core processor # 1 Ghz RAM # 32 GB internal storage # 32 GB MicroSD # 720p SuperAMOLED HD screen (In the future, I hope to see a Plus on that name)# Gorilla Glass# 5mp minimum for rear camera with LED flash# 2mp front camera# 1080p recording # Light sensor # Proximity sensor # MHL from micro USB port (with MHL to HDMI adapter in the box that includes a micro USB charging port) # NFC # Accelerometer  # Gyroscope # WiFi # Bluetooth # Compass # GPS # FM radio # Good loudspeaker # Able to work on any of the US carriers and their fastest, current 4G tech in case I choose to switch

How big would the screen be? This tends to be the only problem with large touchscreen devices - You Ned a bit of a bezel to hold it properly without touching the screen.

With an HD screen, I'm thinking it would be around 4.5". For the bezel, it could be as thick as what we have on the sides of the N1. I consider that to be slim enough. The top and bottom could be a bit wider for the ear speaker and the LED lights. I'm just not onto fat bezels that leave what looks like wasted space. Whatever the thickness of the bezel has to be at the top and bottom to get all the components to fit, it should be about equal at both ends. That's just my style preference though.

I would have the samsung galaxy s 2 ( t-mobile ) body with a 4.2" display , instead of a dark chrome bezel I would have a metal frame like the iPhone 4 or amaze 4g , a quad core 2 ghz processor , a retina display , android htc sense ui , a 2050 mhz battery , the camera on the amaze 4g , and to top it all off have beats audio...... that my friends is the perfect phone! oh and it would have to be for t-mobile running on its hspa+ network as a 42 mbs phone.

yeah.. i love the Nexus One design ......

I'd have something like the HTC Desire Z with a beefed up dual core processor, Beats audio running WebOS...

I commend you for how well articulated you are. So many videos are made by those with small vocabularies and poor grammar. Also, your "presence," demeanor & simple/clear cinematography are wonderful. I couldn't help but wonder if you are involved with Toastmasters or some other speech development group. That said, your video on battery life could have held a bit more weight in its presentation had you researched the readily available material on that subject. There is even talk of a nuclear-powered battery which would never die.

i just want a tmobile samsung galaxy s2 but with a 720p super amoled display.

this is nothing new... go to china... they already do it.. you can choose everything and they make it within a few days...
