China Unicom orders 2 million MIUI-powered Xiaomi phones
The Mi-One, also known as the MIUI phone, seems to be gaining a lot of traction in China. It has been reported that the Chinese carrier China Unicom has ordered 2 million of these devices, with over 300,000 pre-orders already in place. What makes this so special is the fact that this is all powered by a custom Android ROM, MIUI, which is available on many mainstream Android devices.
It’s great to see that carriers are finally realizing that people love custom ROMs, and want their phones powered by them. And 300,000 pre-orders is no small feat, further proving the fact. Who would want their next phone powered by a custom ROM? Should carriers in the US take note? Let us know in the comments, or on Twitter!
I would definitely buy a MIUI or Cyanogen loaded phone by a major OEM (Samsung, HTC, Motorola, etc.) this of course assuming its rooted out of the box. Of course these would also have to be U.S. bound, not imported. Among the rooting community and the tech-conscious, I'm sure these would majorly sell, I mean if they had those guidelines I mentioned above (Major OEM+US)
