It wasn’t too long ago that HTC came forward and let everyone know that they were reviewing their options for Ice Cream Sandwich, or Android 4.0 updates to existing devices. That initial statement didn’t do much to actually describe which devices would be getting updates, but that wasn’t surprising at all. The Taiwanese company has now finally come forward and detailed which devices will be getting Android 4.0 in the early part of 2012, and the list shouldn’t surprise anyone.
- HTC Rezound
- HTC Vivid
- HTC Sensation
- HTC Sensation XL
- HTC Sensation XE
- HTC EVO 3D
- HTC EVO Design 4G
- HTC Amaze 4G
It looks like HTC is playing it close to the vest with this list of devices, and it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that some of the company’s most popular devices aren’t on there. The HTC EVO 4G and HTC Incredible were barely able to get the Android 2.3 update, so an update to Android 4.0 really shouldn’t be expected. However, HTC did go on to say that they are still looking at their options, and it sounds like it is possible that more devices get added to the list at some point in the future.
The official statement from HTC goes like this:
“HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google’s latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we’re thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades: We can confirm the brand new HTC Vivid, on sale beginning today, is upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition, Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G through close integration with our carrier partners. We’re continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.”
