Now, this might not be considered “new” news to most but it certainly is a nice confirmation of what we have been expecting to surface in the next couple of weeks. The Motorola DROID, the DROID that started it all, is now in its fourth version and the new design and specs command that attention be given.
The Motorola DROID 4 comes with the customary high end specs that we’ve come to expect from the iconic DROID branding: 4″ qHD display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, Verizon’s 4G LTE, front facing HD camera and an 8MP rear-facing camera with LED flash and 1080p HD video capture, etc. (check out the bottom photo for more specs). It has a RAZR-like design and cuts off the extra lip on the bottom of the phone that the first three versions had (finally!).
And, of course, the DROID 4 comes with it’s ever faithful slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It would cease from being a Motorola DROID if it didn’t. Yet it seems like Motorola has been trying to get this part of the phone right but hasn’t quite found that perfect keyboard design. However, this keyboard looks fantastic. The 5-row LED Edge Lit QWERTY keyboard with its individually set keys seems like it would make for a more accurate and comfortable typing experience. But you’ll just have to try it out yourself.
Finally, you’ll notice that the back cover is removable by way of a separate tool, which you might not want to lose. The rumor was that it was going to come with a non-removable battery, which may still be true as it might just be to access the microSD and micro SIM card slots. But we’ll hope that the battery will be removable.
If the December 8th release date is the actual launch date for the DROID 4, then Verizon will be seeing four high end Android phones release in two months: the DROID RAZR, the HTC Rezound, the DROID 4, and (hopefully) the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. That’s quite a line-up. And if a physical keyboard on a high end device is what you’re looking for, then the Motorola DROID 4 might be the phone for you.
