Samsung and Google have been an unbeatable couple. It only makes sense that one of the world’s top producers of high quality flatscreen TVs would continue to join forces with the world’s top search engine and its highly customizable OS. I don’t have to tell you, but this is very exciting news. I mean, when a company like Samsung says they want to “outperform the market next year”, that usually translates into a fun time to be a consumer. I know what’s on my Christmas wish list for next year already.
But haven’t we already seen Google TV? It has received mixed reviews over the past several months. Yoon Boo-keun, president of Samsung’s TV division, said that “Samsung’s Google TV would differ from those of competitors”. Especially so, should it be sporting Samsung’s “next-generation OLED displays.” OLED displays are said to produce crisp images, not needing a backlight, therefore making them slimmer and more energy-efficient than LCD displays. For now, Samsung is unfortunately not planning on releasing their Google TV at the upcoming CES in January. However, they plan to unveil their new OLED displays during CES, which, who knows, might come with a demo of Google TV running on that beautiful display. I can dream can’t I?
