Sharp Aquos SH-01D waterproof Android phone to be launched December 2

One thing about the Japanese cell phone market, is that they tend to get some pretty unique phones. The Sharp Aquos SH-01D is an Android 2.3 smartphone with a bit of a twist. It features all the latest tech, including a TI OMAP dual-core processor, 4.5″ 720p HD display featuring glasses-less 3D, and a 12.1 megapixel camera. The twist comes in with the fact that it is waterproof, and that it went through the FCC.

The phone is destined for NTT DoCoMo on December 2, and that’s why it’s so peculiar that it went through the FCC. Why would Sharp get the phone approved in the US, when they traditionally stick to the Japanese market?   This brings some to believe that it may ship in the US.

Either way, a high-end waterproof phone is not something you see everyday. Hopefully the phone will be popular, and it is certified for the US, allowing the possibility for it to be launched here. Who would want a high-end waterproof phone? Or would you prefer something thinner? Let us know in the comments!
