Earlier we reported that the ESRB in conjunction with CTIA had plans to implement a system of rating applications based on the current rating system in place for games. Unfortunately, it looks like the two mobile app powerhouses are not on board with their plans for app-rating domination. Google and Apple have both stated that they will not be incorporating the ESRB content rating system into their respective app markets.
Though on the surface, the decision may seem like a misstep with regard to parents’ concerns, the decision may have been made simply because Apple and Google do not have any protocols in place for evaluating all the apps currently up on their electronic storefronts. Whatever the case, it looks like (at least for now), it will fall on parents’ shoulders to filter inappropriate content for their children.
