Android 4.0.3 officially announced

If you’re all about updates to the Android platform, then Google has just probably made your day. While it isn’t a huge update, and no one should have expected it to be, the update to Android 4.0.3 is indeed bringing plenty of new features to the platform. And, considering this is just a day after the Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus by Samsung received the update to Android 4.0.2, it looks like the updates are moving quickly, which is good news.

First and foremost though the update will include bug fixes and plenty of optimizations, for phones and tablets alike. There will be a small number of new APIs included for developers, which will include a social stream API for contacts. Calendar provider enhancement, and plenty of new camera capabilities. The most important part, though, could potentially be that moving forward, Google will be working with partners as Android 4.0.3 “as the base version of Android.” Good news, to say the least.

The update will be coming in the next weeks head, so stay tuned. As soon as we know more, we’ll be sure to pass it along.
