It isn’t just us Android users that had our feathers ruffled with all the scandal surrounding the phone-metrics provider. Federal investigators launched a probe into Carrier IQ’s dealings to see to what extent data was being logged. Carrier IQ execs met with officials from both the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) to start the process. Carrier IQ’s reps state that they have always and are continually adhering to federal standards and guidelines and have emphatically stated that they will support the investigation to the best of their ability; promising transparency and efficiency.
The federal probe comes days after Carrier IQ’s release of their official statement to Android users (over 140 million handsets have Carrier IQ’s software) explaining exactly what does and does not get logged in terms of the end user’s activity on their smartphone. Be that as it may, it hasn’t stopped the movement toward further investigation which doesn’t end with the FTC and FCC. Rumors circulating around blogs also suggest that the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) is also leading its own investigation into the company and its practices.
