Do you remember Google Wallet? The NFC system that was to make all your credit cards obsolete? Well, Google does too, just seems like carriers forgot. Google’s NFC system will probably not be making an appearance on your Android device, unless of course you are already leveraging the system (vis-a-vis Galaxy Nexus S 4G). Yes, that means that the new Galaxy Nexus will probably not be sporting the Google NFC payment system.
Fortunately for consumers, the decision to block Google Wallet access is not because carriers feel the need to stop Google’s innovation. In actuality, carriers (Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile) and creditors (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express) have been working on their own NFC system called ISIS. So while Google Wallet may be getting stuffed by individual carriers, consumers will still get NFC, we’ll just have to sit tight and see how its implemented.
