U.S. Cellular, one of the larger regional carriers, is looking to expand its Android lineup. They just announced the Huawei Ascend II, as a low-end phone for its increasing smartphone base. The specs include a 3.5″ 320×480 display, 5-megapixel camera, 600MHz processor, and a 1,400mAh battery. Everything is run by Android 2.3, with what appears a custom overlay.
The phone will cost the low price of free after a $100 rebate, with a two-year contract. Not the most high-end phone, it should still pull in some sales with first time smartphone users and teens looking for a nicer phone. They will be available in stores in early January, and will include a 2GB microSD card in box. Anyone planning on picking up the Ascend II? Another phone in U.S. Cellular’s lineup got your eye?
