Microsoft Lync hits Android Market today

A lot of business users out there lament the lack of enterprise-centered, feature-rich products. Well it’s not a fix but the folks over at Redmond have released Lync. It’s a new Microsoft app for your Android phone. What does it do? Well, a lot of things. It’s an IM client, contact-management, and VoIP client all rolled up into one neat, minimalist design. A bit reminiscent of the Metro UI seen on Windows Phones.

The Android app allows you to see status updates from your colleagues while you’re on the go in addition to integrating IM, email, and voice calling services directly from within the app. Lync also manages your conference calls to prevent any confusion or mixups (no conference numbers required). In addition, call forwarding has been added to the mix for your out-of-office needs. While the app itself is free, you need to already be running Lync Server or Office 365/Lync Online to be able to use any of the features. So, if you have an account with Microsoft or thinking about starting one, now may be the time.
