Motorola DROID XYBOARD 10.1 and 8.2 officially announced

In a press release issued by Motorola today, the DROID XYBOARD tablets are finally the real deal. Sure, we’ve already seen them in hands-on photos, but up until now Verizon and Motorola have been quiet on the upcoming XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition tablets. While we would love to say that the XOOM 2 and Media Edition names stuck around for the official launch, we all knew that wasn’t going to happen thanks to the new DROID XYBOARD name. Now that it’s official, there’s just no going back.

While an actual release date would have been nice, there’s nothing of the sort included with this release. Instead, we get to know the pricing of each tablet, which should be good enough for some of you out there. Pricing for the 10.1-inch variant of the XYBOARD will start at $529.99 for the 16GB version, while the 32GB model will run you $629.99, and the 64GB model will cost $729.99. As for the smaller 8.2-inch variant, that will start at $429.99 for the 16GB model, and $529.99 for the 32GB version. And, yes, those prices are what you’ll pay once you sign a new, two-year agreement.

Both tablets include a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. Both have a 5MP rear-facing camera and a front-facing camera as well. As you might expect, both tablets will be able to connect to Verizon’s 4G LTE network. And, finally, they will both launch with Android 3.2 Honeycomb on board, but they should both be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich soon enough.
