Anyone getting annoyed of lawsuits yet? Apparently not Motorola, which as it turns out, is bad news for Apple. As of this morning, Motorola has successfully sued Apple in Germany and set a precedent for a sales ban on all iOS devices for all of Europe. This will mark Moto’s first victory in the pair of patent infringement cases that they brought to court in April.
The patents involve a core cellular technology for “performing a countdown function during a mobile-originated transfer for a packet radio system”. Apple would either have to remove this feature from their devices or pay Motorola to license the feature in addition to paying the manufacturer for damages for past infringements.
Theoretically, the lawsuits grants Motorola an injunction against all iOS products including the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, the iPad 3G, and iPad 2 4G. While the suit doesn’t mention the newest iteration of the popular i-device, word on the iPhone 4S is expected before this is all over. Anyone think this is a bit of karmic justice?
