Right now, TELUS doesn’t have an LTE network to speak of. The wireless carrier is set to launch it in 2012, but only in a few select markets. According to the wireless carrier, those under TELUS’ wing will find the LTE network launched in “urban markets,” which is believed to be the likes of Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa. And while some may believe a smartphone is the best way to launch a new market, it looks like TELUS wants a tablet to launch the faster network.
The image above doesn’t tell us much, other than that TELUS has chosen the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE to herald in their fastest network to date. The wireless carrier has the 8.9-inch tablet listed as coming soon, which would lead some to believe that it could possibly launch this year. But, with the weeks running out, and the fact that the page also has it listed as running on TELUS’ 4G network, it is pointing more to an obvious 2012 launch.
We’ll have to wait and see when an official date is given, and we’ll have to keep our hopes up that TELUS also adds a smartphone (or two) to the launch list.
