Swype teams up with Dragon to bring speech recognition for 50+ languages

Swype, a community favorite, has launched a new update for their ever-popular keyboard app. So for all of you that are participating in the Swype beta, go ahead and update your device in the Swype Connect section of Swype Settings. Well, if you want to take advantage of the plethora of features that have been released with the update.

The biggest addition of course, is Dragon Dictation. Swype chose to circumvent the Google engine to adopt Dragon’s software which is now directly integrated into the keyboard and is activated by pressing the Dragon Flame logo key. Currently the software supports English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish, but plans are in place to provide support for over 50 additional languages which are set to be released in 2012.

In addition to Dragon, Swypes language modeling algorithm has undergone significant improvements. Specifically, the company states that there will be “up to a 40% increase” in prediction accuracy and a more accurate learning function that will adapt to your text input patterns. Unfortunately, these features will only be active for languages that are currently supported.
