The original Xiaomi phone was a big hit over in China, and there were plenty of people here State-side who wished they could have gotten their hands on the device. Of course, with a handset like that, it wasn’t likely. And, now that rumors of a successor are breaking cover, we doubt the original device will ever be available here. But, with the specifications of the Xiaomi M2 now being talked about, we really, really want this one instead, anyway.
Specs wise, here’s what the rumor mill has churned out this morning: a 4.6-inch display, with a 2.5GHz processor under the hood, coupled with 2.5GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. There will be a 5MP front-facing camera, and a 12MP rear-facing shooter. It will reportedly launch (some day) with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board. But, the best part is the rumored price tag, which is so low it’s almost ridiculous. According to the report from Giz-China, the device will only cost about 2,499 Yuan, or around $394.
That last part about the price made our jaw drop, but at the same time, made our warning sirens go off. Seems way too good to be true, if you ask us. The specs for this phone are fantastic, but we imagine that the price tag would at least have to kind of reflect that. But, anything is possible right?
Now, let’s just hope other manufacturers take the cue and start making ridiculously high-end devices that cheap here and in other markets.
