We already knew that a lot of phones were activated over the holidays, so it only makes sense that app downloads would be up as well. App research firm Flurry conducted a survey of over 140,000 apps and their downloads, both on Android and iOS. This is a huge spike as only 750 million apps were downloaded every previous week in December, so about a 60% increase. This past holiday season has marked the first time app downloads have passed the 1 billion mark in a single week.
Almost a quarter of the apps were downloaded on Christmas day, sitting at 242 million downloads. The US lead in app downloads, followed by China and then the UK. With 7 million devices activated this past holiday season, it’s starting to show how popular smartphones are becoming. Soon we might see an average of 1 billion app downloads a week, and eventually 2 billion. What do you think of all the app downloads? Is it excessive? Let us know in the comments!
