We’re huge fans of innovative solutions here at DroidDog.com and an amazing XDA modder, hkvc, has delivered just that to the community of Nook Tablet users. What did hkvc do? Well, he pulled together some foundational work that was done by several developers and created a hardware modification that completely bypasses the device’s secure bootloader.
The mod was named the NOP-based Security Bypass. The technique loads a custom kernel into memory, modifies security registers, then executes a custom kernel. If all that’s gibberish to you, don’t worry, you aren’t alone. Suffice it to say, you tinker around a bit inside your Nook Tablet and BOOM! Your Nook Tablet comes the first modchipped Android device. The great thing is that since this is a hardware solution, Barnes & Noble won’t be able to block this with a patch. If you want to know more, head over to XDA Devs for a full breakdown of the work.
