Motorola fans outraged, launch war against locked bootloaders

Last year many Android fans took to Facebook and Twitter to go against the major Android manufacturers for locking down phones bootloaders. Most of them promised a second half of 2011 timeframe for the unlocking to begin, and many brought that. HTC is now offering unlocking for many of its phones, and Sony Ericsson has been doing this for awhile. But one manufacturer has stayed quiet on the whole situation: Motorola.

Motorola was one of many that announced that second half of 2011, and they have missed it. A thread has been started on XDA, and their main goal is to get Motorola to unlock the bootloaders. They are giving out the emails of some of the executives at the company, and are asking people to sign a virtual petition. It is also urged to spam Motorola as much as possible on the social networks, to try and get their attention. You know where we stand, locking a bootloader will push us away. Owning an Atrix, at one point I regretted the purchase until unlocked. I often wondered why and was in the head of Sanjay Jha when he thought it would be ok. Then I saw the phone sold as low as a penny at one point. The phone flopped, with ground breaking dual core pioneering may I add. I influence many people to buy phones and I clearly will not recommend a phone with a locked bootloader. I also am vehement about my distaste by blogging, commenting on interwebs as well as social networking. I am not the only one as Asus just learned and as we all can see...smartened up.
