With the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas right around the corner, it isn’t a surprise to find a few more gadgets being unveiled, teased, and predicted a bit early. A source sent in the above image of the Pantech Breakout, a waterproof tablet that is expected to launch on AT&T’s 4G LTE network, and see its initial and official unveiling at CES next week. But, it will launch on January 8th, according to the source.
The tablet, which is scheduled to launch right before the start of CES, will have a reported price tag of $299 with a two-year agreement attached to it. As far as specifications go, you’re looking at a tablet with an 8-inch touchscreen display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor under the hood, and it will launch with Android 3.2 Honeycomb out of the box. It will have 16GB of internal storage, a 5MP rear-facing camera capable of 1080p HD video capture, and a 2MP front-facing camera. For those of you who like to go outside with your tablet, you’ll be happy to know that AT&T is promoting this tablet as completely waterproof “for real life.”
However, before you get too excited, the device is only rated at IP57, which means that it really is only “splash resistant.” And that’s as long as all the ports are closed. So, don’t be surprised to hear that AT&T internal training for the device is reportedly telling representatives not to sell the device as “truly waterproof” at all. Interesting.
We should know more next week, so if you’re interested in the tablet, we should be seeing more of it in just a matter of days.
