Now that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is up and running around, there’s probably no reason to think that any phone out there capable of running Android 2.3 Gingerbread isn’t running that particular version of the software. Well, up until today, that wasn’t the case, at least not for a phone that was released two years ago, based on one of the most popular Android smartphones ever. Today, Samsung announced that the Captivate has finally received the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
The update is only accessible via a download, so don’t expect to be notified that your phone is waiting to pull it down from the cloud. The build number is I897UCKK4, and brings plenty of improvements to the device, as well as a few extras. You’ll get a fix to the Gmail Top-menu, and there’s also an additional vertical play mode for YouTube now in there. You’ll obviously get the standard Android 2.3 Gingerbread features as well, so go ahead and update if you’ve got a Captivate lying around, and let us know how it goes.
