Samsung Galaxy Nexus reportedly randomly rebooting for many owners out there

If you own the phone that launched Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich into the world, then hopefully you’ve been pretty pleased with the experience. The Galaxy Nexus by Samsung is indeed an impressive device, in its own regard, but it doesn’t look like everything is so happy in every owner’s experience with the device.

According to several owners out there, mixed in with owners of other Nexus devices like the Nexus One running Android 2.3.6, the device is randomly rebooting throughout the day. While the problem seems to be completely random, there are owners out there reporting that it happens when they play games or listen to music, while others are suggesting it happens when the phone is simply idle, sitting next to them.

The issue seems to be plaguing the GSM-based version of the device mostly, but there are some scattered claims from the CDMA-based model as well. Google does seem to be aware of the issue and are currently investigating it, so we’ll have to wait and see what that leads to, if anything.

Until then, let us know in the comments if your Galaxy Nexus is randomly rebooting.

My nexus has been doing this for quite a while. It got so bad last night that it rebooted everytime i tried to open an app. I had to factory reset my phone. Hopefully this fixes the issue until google figures it out.

My Verizon Galaxy Nexus rebooted while in my pocket once last week. I felt a vibration then looked to see the boot animation in progress. Curiously, my 4G Xoom rebooted untouched an hour later. Since both share dozens of apps I assumed the reboots was due to a misbehaving shared app. Could have been a coincedence.
