SteelSeries announces Ion wireless controller for Android

For those of our readers that are avid PC gamers, SeelSeries is a company that doesn’t need any introduction. Their Ikari line of mice has delivered headshots aplenty and now it looks like the company has decided to spread its proverbial wings and soar into new territory. SteelSeries recently announced that they have developed a new controller for use with the Android platform, undoubtedly trying to capitalize on the wave of choice gaming titles that have been hitting the Market lately. With ICS tablets now gracing retailers, there’s no where to go but up, right?

The controller itself should feel pretty familiar. It has a D-pad, two analog joysticks, four game pad buttons, and shoulder buttons which can all be mapped whether you’re using this bad boy on your PC or Android device. It is compact (measures about the size of a deck of cards) and uses Bluetooth for connectivity. No official announcement has been made on availability or pricing as of yet, but they have given us the ever so specific “some time in Q2 or early Q3″ date range. We will keep you posted as we receive more news, but we are looking forward to it release and our subsequent testing of the peripheral.
