The development community isn’t just about bringing new, or altered versions of Android to other Android-based devices. Some other developers and modders out there like to try their hand at bringing Android to unsupported devices. We’ve seen it tried in the past, and development in this part of the community is generally pretty slow. But, while it may not be moving at a rocket’s pace all the time, it’s still exciting to see devices like the Nokia N9 getting some Android love.
Thanks to developer Alexey Roslyakov of the NITDroid team, we can safely say that work on bringing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to one of Nokia’s best devices out there is now underway. As you can see in the image above, which was just one of many that Roslyakov added to the Internet via Twitter, there is some graphical errors happening on the display, but it is a good step in the right direction. The developer says his ultimate goal is to make it possible to dual-boot the Nokia N9′s stock MeeGo OS, as well as Android 4.0.
We’ll keep an eye on this, and let you know how development goes from here on out. It would be pretty nice to have the N9′s hardware with Ice Cream Sandwich.
