As it stands right now, Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet is raking in the money due to its low-cost, and easy accessibility. It’s easily one of the most popular Android-based tablets out there, even if Amazon did manage to skin it and customize it to the point where you can barely tell it’s Android running behind the scenes. With its 8GB of storage, and $200 price tag, the Kindle Fire is a hit for the digital retailer. But it looks like the $200 worthy tablet market is about to get more crowded if a leaked internal document is any indicator.
According to a report from The Verge, a leaked internal Walmart document suggests that the 8GB Nook Tablet will go on sale at 12:01 AM Wednesday morning. That’s February 22nd, and only two days away. It is an interesting move from Barnes & Noble’s part, if it turns out to be true. With a move to go right against Amazon’s tablet device, you’d think there would be more fan fare. There’s no word on pricing, but it can only be assumed that Barnes & Noble is looking to price the 8GB tablet for $200, to directly compete with Amazon’s offering.
It is unknown at this time whether or not there are any other differences in the 8GB Nook Tablet, compared to the original. With the drop in memory to 8GB, there probably shouldn’t be any other changes if B&N really wants to compete.
Hopefully we’ll learn more later today or tomorrow, so stay tuned.
