Samsung Galaxy S II for US Cellular officially announced

We knew it was coming, as there had been plenty of reports the high-end device would be making an appearance on the regional carrier US Cellular sometime in the future since last year. But the time has finally come. If you’re under US Cellular’s wing and you’ve been waiting to get your hands on the device, you’ll only have a bit longer to wait, as the carrier has officially announced that it is “coming soon.”

Granted, that isn’t much different than what we knew unofficially since last year, but at least it’s a step in the right direction. US Cellular has announced that the device will run you $229.99 on a new, two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate. As far as specifications go, you’ll get a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, with the 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos C210 processor under the hood. You’ll find an 8MP rear-facing camera, and 16GB of built-in storage. It will be launching with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but we know the device is perfectly capable of running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, so it will be interesting to see if US Cellular’s device is on the update path.

While no exact date has been given, it’s getting closer, and hopefully the US Cellular subscribers out there can feel it. You can check out the full press release below.
