Android distribution numbers posted by Google

Not much has changed since the last time Google formally unveiled the latest distribution numbers for the Android Army, but it is still good to stay abreast of how the situation is looking. As you can clearly tell, there are still a lot of phones out there running Android 2.3.3, but that shouldn’t be surprising in the slightest, considering there are still new phones launching with that particular mobile operating system on board.

What’s still almost depressing is the fact that Android 4.0 and Android 4.0.3 are still on such a small, small number of phones, that you can barely find it within the list of devices still running Android 1.5. Android 3.0 and Android 2.1 are within that spectacularly small margin as well, but with 3.x’s disposition towards tablets, and Android 2.1′s ancient status within the mobile industry, that’s exactly how it should be.

With plenty of devices announced this year to be launching with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board, one can only hope that those small numbers turn around before the start of 2013.

Here’s how it breaks down:

  • Android 1.5: 0.4%
  • Android 1.6: 0.8%
  • Android 2.1: 6.6%
  • Android 2.2: 25.3%
  • Android 2.3-2.3.2: 0.5%
  • Android 2.3.3-2.3.7: 61%
  • Android 3.0: 0.1%
  • Android 3.1: 1.1%
  • Android 3.2: 2.1%
  • Android 4.0-4.0.2: 0.1%
  • Android 4.0.3: 1.2%
