Yesterday Verizon confirmed that it wouldn’t be updating some of its older, 3G handsets to the latest Ice Cream Sandwich. Motorola’s DROID 3 didn’t make the cut, despite featuring comparable specs to many new handsets. Motorola isn’t leaving its patrons in the dark, however, and has just sent out this email:
Thanks for joining the Motorola Feedback Network. We are inviting owners of the Motorola Droid 3 on Verizon to participate in an early preview of a new software release, and provide feedback. If you are not currently using a Droid 3, please excuse and ignore this email.
Click this link to take a short enrollment survey if you wish to take part. Note that you must be a member in good standing of the Motorola Owners’ Forums to be included. The registration window is can close without notice so please respond as quickly as possible.
Thanks — please understand that start times are always fluid. We ask for your patience if you register but don’t hear from us right away.
The company appears to be preparing to send out a soak test to owners of the handset, in preparation for a new software update. We’re going to assume this is probably just a bug fixing update, but one can dream, right? The test should be rolled out in the next few weeks, and it probably won’t be too long before we see it hitting all DROID 3′s. Do you own the DROID 3? Are you part of the soak test? Let us know in the comments!
