Late last year, we had heard that Samsung planned on rolling out the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to their Galaxy Note device sometime within the first quarter of 2012. It was the standard verbiage, not exactly picking a date, but keeping everyone on their toes that it could be at any point within a wide timeframe. Unfortunately for Samsung, it looks like that initial idea won’t pan out, as the company has announced the update won’t hit the Galaxy Note until the second quarter of this year.
However, it’s not all bad news. With the added wait, Samsung is throwing in new software that you can utilize with your S Pen. Samsung is calling it a “Premium Suite” upgrade, and it will not only include the update to Ice Cream Sandwich, but also a bonus pack of applications, and even a tweak to the user interface. As Samsung puts it, the new UI will be “more intuitive,” and will also feature an altered application menu, which aims to help multitasking on the device.
The software applications for the S Pen are “S Note,” which will let you add and combine notes and sketches to digital content on your device; the Angry Birds Space exclusive level that we’ve heard about in the past; and My Story, which will let you create personalized cards right on your Galaxy Note.
As before, there’s no exact date picked quite yet, so there’s no reason to circle anything on your calendar quite yet. But, this seems a bit more official than last time, and it would seem that Samsung is trying a bit harder to reach the second quarter than they may have been aiming to hit the first quarter due date before.
