During the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year, Sony took the wraps off new devices that showcased their focus on Android, and a new design aesthetic. The Xperia S is just one of those new handsets, and the company is happy to announce that the device is now shipping around the globe in preparation for its launch.
The Xperia S by Sony will have its final release date and pricing revealed by carriers and retailers, as soon as they become available. As it stands right now, the announcement didn’t reveal anything like that quite yet.
If you’ll recall, the Xperia S features a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor under the hood, a 4.3-inch touchscreen display with a 720p Reality Display. There’s a 12MP camera on the back, and that translucent bar below the display will help you with your notifications. It will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box, but Sony has said that an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is scheduled for release soon after launch.
