Apple And Samsung Heading To Mediation, Finally Resolving Patent Issues

Following Judge Lucy Koh’s order for Samsung and Apple to enter mediation to resolve their patent infringement dispute, the dates have been set. According to FOSS Patents, Samsung and Apple will meet in San Francisco on May 21st and May 22nd in the hopes of resolving the dispute between the tech giants. Additionally, both companies have been asked to give statements to the Judge assessing how likely they believe they are to win the trial, should it continue.

The mediation was agreed to by both Apple CEO Tim Cook and Samsung’s Choi Gee-sung after the year-long court case in which both companies have traded barbs over who copied whose design. Apple filed the first salvo claiming that Samsung “slavishly” copied its designs, which led to Samsung’s countersuit accusing Apple and the iPhone infringing on 10 of their patents.

Unfortunately, at least for us in the cheap seats, Judge Joseph J. Petro, who is presiding over the settlement talks has ordered the mediation process and statements from both parties to stay completely confidential. Sad face, we’d love to be a fly on the wall for this one!
