ICS OTA Update For Acer Iconia Tab A500 Live Early… For Some

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 has been a fairly popular tablet, due to its low price compared to most high end tablets and the fact that it has a mostly stock build of Android. Thankfully, this means the Ice Cream Sandwich update can come sooner, as Acer doesn’t have to modify Android as much to get it out to the public.

The update, while not as quick as many had hoped, has been announced by Acer for both the 7 inch A100 and the 10.1 inch A500. Acer stated that it will go live on April 27th in the US and Canada. However, some people are reporting that it’s live today. If you own a A500, do a manual check for updates in Settings and you just might find yourself with a shiny new OS version!

Mine updated yesterday and took about 30 minutes.  Worked perfectly.  ICS is great, jerky screen movement is a thing of the past.  They also fixed some of the querky working apps and widgets.   Now it reacts as smoothly as my IPad2 except with FLASH (I had to install flash from apps).  I find myself using it more than the Ipad.

Got mine this morning at about 2am. US. However, as soon as the update was applied, my tablet would not boot past the Acer splash screen. Time to troubleshoot. Sometimes I wish Acer would have comple OS install over USB rather than an ota update.
