Today, the jury unanimously decided that Android does not infringe on two of Oracle’s patents. This is great news for Android, as Google wouldn’t have to pay royalty fees just because Oracle unfairly sued them. Android, though a free OS, already comes with a ton of royalty fees for manufacturers. It saddens me to see manufacturers have to pay other companies to use an open source OS made free for the customers, not specifically for the manufacturers.
This isn’t the end of the whole trial, but is only the end of the second phase. The proceedings will continue after Memorial Day, and we will see where it goes from there. Hopefully Google wins that too, because this whole case is pretty messed up.
