In February, Verizon announced that its employees will be able to purchase a limited edition DROID RAZR MAXX. It would be either 16GB or 32GB for $99 or $199. They would be a special edition red color, and would even come with a unique serial number engraved in the body.
Now that they’ve been arriving at the doors of Verizon employees, we get to see some new photos of the phone. It’s a basic MAXX, but the back panel is completely red, while the rest of the phone is black. Also noticeable is that the Verizon logo has been pushed aside for an added “LIMITED EDITION” print on the front. Probably the best feature of this phone is that the power button is red.
Though these phones were only supposed to be for Verizon employees, we’re sure you can find one on eBay. Unfortunately, it won’t be cheap. One sold for $2250 when the guy didn’t even have the phone yet. That’s a lot of money to pay for an average DROID RAZR MAXX with a little red paint on it.
I worry that it came a bit too late. We are at the dawn of a new generation of phones. The HTC One series has already been released, while the Galaxy SIII is right on the horizon. Though Motorola hasn’t announced a single thing, the RAZR MAXX has been showing its age. The qHD screen, the OMAP dual core with the (ancient) SGX 540 GPU, and Gingerbread with no signs of an upgrade coming. No doubt that Motorola will announce a new phone any day, so why did these come so late to employee hands?
Even knowing it’s an old phone by now, would you get one? Would you be willing to shell out two grand for it? Tell us in the comments!
