Samsung Galaxy S III Now Official Phone Of 2012 London Olympics

The Samsung Galaxy S IIIlove it or hate it is now the official smartphone of the 2012 London Olympics. Joining forces with Visa, the Galaxy S III will offer NFC payment options to athletes as they compete around the city in the games. Visa and Samsung will launch a limited edition of the Galaxy S III ‘Olympic’ handset specifically built for the 2012 games.

Visa will package a specially themed version of its payWave Android application, in partnership with Lloyds TBS to offer contact-less payments to athletes in various retailers spread throughout the city and at official Olympic sites. To help with these payments, Visa will have 140,000 contact less terminals across the UK, including taxis, retailers and the Olympic park.

Athletes using the specially built Galaxy S III handset will be able to see their list of recent transactions and view their balances in real time.

So do they get to keep the phone? That’s all I really want to know.
