Samsung: The Galaxy S III Wasn’t Designed By Lawyers

Samsung is working to refute reports that the Galaxy S III was designed by lawyers with specific intent on working around Apple’s ongoing patent infringement case. Samsung’s Design VP Chang Dong-hoon was asked at the 2012 Seoul Digital Forum where he told reporters that the design of Samsung’s smartphones had not changed because of Apple’s lawsuits.

”Our change in smartphone design is part of a five-year plan, not a sudden turn-around.”

Dong-hoon insisted that Samsung’s curved shape design for the Galaxy S III had undergone hundreds of designs before finally settling on the production shape we see today.

Ordinarily, I'd disagree with Mr. Chang, if it weren't for 2 thing: Samsung went along with the production of GSII and didn't care what Apple thought and GSIII looks a lot like the original Epic 4G, and if you recall, that phone (which looks nothing like the iPhone seeing as it has a keyboard.) was called into question on Apple's list. If anything I believe Sammy knows Apple wants to go back to having a form factor similar to the 3GS with rounded edges. Apple can do that and the form factor is common among lots of devices on the market, however they step into Samsung/Android territory if they put a screen any larger than a 3.5 on it and Sammy knows they want a 4-inch screen badly.
