TELUS has announced that it’ll be selling the new Samsung Galaxy S III. The kicker? It’ll have LTE on board. TELUS is the first North American carrier to announce an LTE Galaxy S III variant. They say it’ll be released around summer, which matches Samsung’s plans for US launch.
Now for the bad news. No specifications were listed yet. This could very well mean that the quad core Exynos will be replaced with a more LTE-friendly Snapdragon S4. Though benchmarks have been all over the place between the A9 and A15 architectures, I’d still prefer the Exynos over anything else. Not only is the GPU more powerful, but Samsung built the Exynos themselves and designed their software around it. The Galaxy S II is proof that Samsung does some crazy optimizations to Android for their own processors.
That’s not to say that the Snapdragon S4 is a bad processor. It’s definitely competitive, and very capable. So either way, those Canadians using TELUS should be very happy. And since no exclusivity deal was mentioned, we expect other Canadian carriers to announce an S III soon, so many other Canadians should be happy. But Samsung was never known for exclusivity. They always pushed their Galaxy line to every possible carrier, including regional carriers.
