Theme Engine Added To Latest CyanogenMod Nightly, Along With Lockscreen Customizations

While the Theme Engine was an integral part of the CyanogenMod 7 experience, it has been strangely absent from CM9 nightlies. Fortunately, they’ve reintroduced it, all spruced up for Ice Cream Sandwich. Now switching themes is as easy as opening an app and pressing one button. Themes are also in the convenient form of installable APKs. The whole system is convenient and easy to use.

If that wasn’t enough good news, they have also added customizable lockscreen shortcuts. While this is catching up with AOKP (which has had that feature for ages), this comes with a handy UI instead of AOKP’s unintuitive menus.

While CyanogenMod used to be known for its extensive customization features, it seems that AOKP has taken that crown. More and more people are using AOKP over CM9 lately. However, the Theme Engine should draw in a good crowd, as this is a big advantage over AOKP.

If you’d like to try out the newest nightlies, complete with the Theme Engine, hit up CyanogenMod’s download site for the latest nightly! Remember, standard disclaimers of the danger of bricking your phone apply.

Sweet, but till the G2x gets some real drivers I'm not going back to any ICS Roms, even with an extended battery I only get 20 hours of medium use (I normally get 28-30).
