Hot on the heels of last nights Google Tablet report, an ASUS executive set some expectations for the device by indicating Google will directly target Amazon with the 7″ tablet.
“It’s targeting Amazon. The Kindle is based on Google’s platform but with its own service, so Google has to launch its own service, too,” said the executive of the device.
Bloomberg’s earlier report indicated that Google would launch a tablet at its developer conference later today, with direct aim being taken at Apple’s iPad. The ASUS executive, who wanted to remain anonymous declined to give details on its price, specifications or launch timeframe. Regardless of who Google is “directly” targeting, the launch of their first tablet will hopefully provide Google with a much needed boost in the tablet arena, a market Android has yet to conquer.
All of these reports, stories and rumors come down to the next three hours and day 1 of Google I/O with a 12:30pm Eastern Time keynote. Stay tuned!
