T-Mobile Announces Network Expansion, Implementing LTE-Advanced

In an announcement on their blog today, T-Mobile revealed their intentions to upgrade to LTE-Advanced by 2013 with trials already begun and continuing into this summer.  Additionally, Senior Vice President of Technology, Dave Mayo anticipated more improvements to HSPA+ sites.  ”By the end of this month we expect new equipment to be installed at our first 400 modernized GSM / HSPA+ sites and we plan to grow this to over 2,500 sites by the end of July.”  Zoning approval and building permits have been secured for necessary sites in over 19,500 locations.

Mayo concluded the press release by promising to keep us abreast of their $4 billion dollar 4G network evolution plan.

I'm glad to see T-Mobile taking such great steps forward. Even with their current network, they can do quite well. I was getting around 6mbs on my Galaxy Nexus the other day, and my friend with a Nexus S 4G on Sprint was getting less than 1mbs in the same place. Once they get LTE up and running, they just need to grow the network as big as they possibly can. Verizon would have some real competition from a GSM network then. I want to see CDMA die lol.
