T-Mobile Galaxy S II Receiving ICS Tonight!

It’s finally here! It’s quite a big event, as Samsung has updated a US Galaxy SII to Ice Cream Sandwich. Sure, it wasn’t the fastest update, but it was faster than most phones were upgraded stateside. And T-Mobile has the honor of being the first carrier to have their SII updated to the coveted Ice Cream Sandwich.

Software version T989UVLE1 will be Android 4.0.3 and will (obviously) still be skinned with TouchWiz 4. It will be live tonight at 11 PM EST (or 8PM PST, for West coasters like me). Unfortunately, it will follow Samsung’s update pattern with older phones, and won’t be OTA. You’ll need a computer around with Kies installed, and will update the traditional way with a cable in hand. If you want any more info, hit the source link! And tell us what you think: are you excited?

I'm going to have to lose my warranty and root this thing.  The update took a long time but worked as expected.  Unfortunately Touchwiz still craps all over the phone.  When compared to my Nexus S with stock ICS, the Touchwiz infected SII becomes infuriating to use.  You can't control your bookmarks so useless Facebook, Fox, T-Mobile Mall, etc... are LOCKED into the top of the list.  Why do I need MobileLife when my contacts are saved by google?  The apps at the bottom of the screen aren't configurable.  If you enjoy fighting an overlay, this is the phone for you!

I made and error and failed to buy the Galaxy Nexus for T-Mobile directly from google off of their Play Store Devices.  I'm going to hold out until November when google is rumored to release new phones and tablets.  If they make a phone with a qwerty keyboard I'll update the day it's released.

I guess it will be a cold day in hell when the Sprint version gets the same thing.
