Want To Write For DroidDog? We’re Looking For News Editors!

DroidDog is always looking to expand, but to do so we need to make sure that we cover all the latest news. We’re looking for people with a passion for writing, and are fans of everything Android. If you could describe yourself with those two traits, then keep on reading.

What we’re looking for:

  • People who love to write. This job is all writing, all the time so you have to really love writing and coming up with new and refreshing ways to say the same thing over and over.
  • Previous writing experience is preferred, but not required. If you prove to be a good candidate, but don’t have too much experience with writing, we’ll try our best to help you along the way.
  • Grammar and spelling. Y u want me to be good at this? You know why.
  • Experience with WordPress is a big plus, but we have tutorials to help introduce it to you.
  • Need to be able to find news in a timely manner. This means following some of the larger tech blogs along with the smaller ones to find news that can be posted on our site.
  • We’re looking for writers to write on a daily shift, along with weekend writers. If you can’t write for us on a set, daily schedule, this may not be the right position. We understand the occasional conflict, but we’re looking for reliable individuals.
  • We’re mostly looking for writers to cover either early morning, or evening/night shifts. Also looking for weekend writers.
  • International writers are more than welcome, if not encouraged. The time change can be a great benefit.
  • As of now, this is not a paid position. If you prove to be a good, consistent addition to the team, it could very well turn into one.
  • Must be 16 or older.

To apply, start with a couple sentences describing yourself. Nothing elaborate, just a little something so we can get to know you better. Include two sample articles, or a link to some of your previous work. Check out some of the articles on the site if you need a little guidance to our style, and feel free to send any questions as well. We want you to voice yourself, show some personality in the writing.  If we feel you’re a good candidate for the site, we’ll bring you on. Good luck, and we look forward to expanding the site with your help.

Send your applications to joey@droiddog.com. Thanks in advance!

Ugh I'll apply after I win the One Paw Bandit since as an employee I wouldn't be eligible ;)

Not quite understanding the negative backlash this is getting. If you don't agree with the requirements, then don't apply lol. But if this kind of work is something you wanna get into, then this is a good way to get your foot in the door.

I have no writing skills whatsoever, but maybe I can share an idea, since this site is part of the whole Phonedog world, maybe there would be more traffic if you asked Aaron if he can "promote" the site in one or more of his Unboxings, reviews or dog fights, he always checks the browser on the phones so instead of going to phonedog all the time maybe once in a while come here to Droid Dog.  Just a thought.

I would have no problem writing on the weekends, if that means writing for a few hours throughout the day to hep post new and exciting news. I have already spoken to David already. I just need some direction. I'd be more than happy to help. Thanks.

"As of now, this is not a paid position."

LOL. You demand a reliable individual to write blogs on a daily schedule, but you refuse to pay that individual, at least for some time? Wow, pretty shameless.

cbruegg Yeahh I agree. I write for a smaller android site and would love to write for this site but no pay is kind of ridiculous. Even the smaller sites pay. You must have some incentive if you want someone to work hard

blynchus  cbruegg The "incentive" is to work hard, this site has been struggling for a while and that's why I was brought in, when traffic pics up which leads to revenues increasing we can bring on an entire paid staff. With a limited budget, interns are our best bet to make the site work well.

DavidBeren  blynchus  There's a principle called "Return on Investment".. ;)

cbruegg The thing is, a lot of blog writers only get hired with pay after a trial period of sorts unless they were specifically noticed and given a job offer. I started out that way myself.

cbruegg Honestly, I don't think its shameless at all, while I likely have more experience in this game than most of our commenters, I can assure you that plenty of the names you read now started exactly like this, with unpaid internships that quickly led to something paid. This is one of those positions we need to try someone out and see if they are the right fit, if they are, we'll get you paid. Simple, but let's not treat it like we're looking to be slave drivers.

DavidBeren I'm a (German) blogger myself and I never noticed job offers like these without some kind of payment. Companies usually don't try people out, at least in the blog business AFAIK, that's what sample articles and references are for.. Good luck finding someone though! (No irony here!)

cbruegg Well, while I understand what you are saying, a lot of the above job description is culled from the internship postings I discovered on other Android and tech blog related sites. So...I understand what you are saying, I do, but I have to work within the confines of the budget. I'm not asking people to work for years without pay, but I think a 90 day trial is well within the realm of normalcy.

cbruegg I understand a struggling economy, but I completely agree with your point of view. That was 1st item that stuck out in my mind as well. I'm sorry DroidDog can't afford to (or simply won't) pay at the outset, but for those already holding down a fulltime job, doing pro bono work is not appealing. For those unemployed (like myself for the past 14 months), working for nothing is not at all appealing. Everyone seems to want something for nothing from me, but when I want to be compensated, they pull the "we don't have money." Well, if my unemployment keeps up, neither will I and working for free to me is an insult.

cbruegg I wrote for about a 2 months, a 4 hour shift every weekday, for free. And it most definitely paid off in the end. Now look at me. Senior Editor.
