Would Samsung Ever Consider Leaving Android In The Dust?

Well, here’s a doozy of a “however you want to interpret these comments” story for you as Samsung Electronics’ CEO calls for the company to redouble focus on its software, hinting at a possible move to build up their own proprietary system. In my opinion, the popularity of Android which has helped pushed Samsung to very top of the smartphone sales charts is something that the company can’t ignore, even if they wish to redouble focus on Bada.

That being said, a completely integrated product would allow Samsung to exert greater control over every detail of the device, a method that has worked very well for Apple, but not so much for RIM. Furthermore, tight control over their own platform would remove Samsung’s dependency on outside companies pushing out the latest software. Samsung has the clout and the muscle to go down the Apple route and take full control of the entire build process, even as RIM, Palm (HP) and Nokia struggle with their own proprietary software.

Another suggestion is that Samsung will do more to further differentiate its Android devices from the competition, perhaps moving even further away from the stock Android user experience. Unfortunately, many Android fans prefer the “stock” experience which leaves Android in its original state shipped from Google.

While Samsung certainly has all the power it needs to go down the Apple road of pushing their own software, the real questions are whether they really want to, need to or should. Samsung is making money hand over fist now riding on the current wave of Android success, do they really want to mess with success?

As long as they continue to make money, hand over fist, there is no reason for them to abandon Android. Now if they are truly sick and tired of apple law suits and paying microsoft's patent extortion fees, then this may be the way to go for them.

Don't you just love when CEO's have brain farts.... "We're wildly successful with walking on our two feet (hardware & software). Let's shoot ourselves in the foot and see if that helps us walk better."

The Galaxy S series has seen massive success across the globe.  HTC, Moto, LG, they don't even come close.  Why would Samsung mess with that?

I think they will crash and burn, if they try to sway away from Android & Google.  I for one like Samsung products, but I also like LG, Asus, Toshiba , ect...  Samsung, don't make a huge company ending mistake.  One person can lead a group to battle, but it takes the group to win the battle, so stick with Android Alliance.
