My personal phone has been an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II for the longest time, and I’ve become accustomed to its camera. Let’s get this out of the way: The camera on the S II blows almost every other camera phone away. It is fantastic, amazing, and I couldn’t be happier with it. Until about a week ago, of course.
I recently received an HTC DROID Incredible 4G LTE as a review unit, and I was eager to try out the camera. I heard great things about the HTC One S camera, so how will this one fare without the ImageSense chip? That is irrelevant though, because the first photo I took, I was in shock. I tapped the shutter button, and the photo was taken. Almost no delay. I proceeded to mash the shutter button as fast as I could, taking 10 photos of the floor. I also took photos of my dog, and it was great not having to wait a second between shots, missing precious moments where he is still. Hell, this thing shot faster than my DSLR!
Instant shutter on Android phones was first incorporated into the Galaxy Nexus. Even though the actual camera on the Galaxy Nexus wasn’t too great, the instant shutter got a lot of attention. Now it seems every phone is trying to incorporate it, including the HTC One X, One S, and of course the Galaxy S III. And I couldn’t be happier with this trend! I know this will help everyone, be it a mom, a sports fan, or more likely a pet owner.
I hope this trend continues and every phone manufacturer starts using instant shutter in their cameras. For this reason, I cannot wait to get my hands on a Galaxy S III. That is my choice in phone to replace my trusty S II, and the inclusion of instant shutter just makes it so much better. It’s really a feature I can’t praise enough. Now we just need to improve auto focus technology to be almost instant, because that still takes a good amount of time.
Will it be hard going back to my S II camera? Yes, that lag already bothers me. Of course, that camera still outperforms most, including the Incredible LTE’s. So it’ll be worth it in sheer photo quality. But I just cannot wait to get my hands on a great instant shutter camera.
