Canadian carrier TELUS stated last week that the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Desire HD has been cancelled. They claimed that there was “poor device performance in testing.” This is very strange, as I’ve seen ICS run on an Inspire 4G (AT&T variant of the Desire HD) perfectly fine. Also, it meets every spec, including the 768MB of RAM. So this statement just doesn’t make sense. Especially considering the HTC One V runs full Sense 4.0 just fine, while this is supposed to get 3.6.
HTC had a few words to say about it too.
“We remain committed to providing customers with the latest software updates when possible. As such, we are pleased to confirm we are still on schedule to deliver an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for both the HTC Desire HD and Desire S.”
Fantastic, the Desire HD is still getting the update. Hopefully they can get through to TELUS. Also, hopefully they release Ice Cream Sandwich before its first anniversary, because that’d be a little sad. HTC, speed up your update process. Many many phones in the US are still waiting. But thanks for supporting older phones at all, that’s always appreciated.
