HTC “Proto” Rumored To Hit Later This Year With Marginally Better Specs Than The One V

If you’re an HTC One V owner then you might want to avert your eyes as a new HTC device has already surfaced that trumps your phone. The Verge has now reported that a new mid-range HTC device is in the works that’s codenamed “Proto” and is slated for release later this year. From the specs list it looks to be an upgraded version of the HTC One V as it features a 4″ WVGA Super-LCD display, 5-megapixel camera, 4GB storage, 512MB RAM, 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8225 processor, and 7.2Mbps HSPA. It’s body is said to measure in at a fairly slim 9.62mm body. The phone is also rumored to feature Beats branding for enhanced audio. It’s unclear as to whether or not this will be one of HTC’s One series phones or if it will be separate. Either way, it sounds like a nice spec bump from the One V although some One V owners may not be too happy about a better phone so soon afterwards.

Oh yeah, HTC with their "We will release less phones this year" policy. Just another PR-lie I guess.

Se3ek you do know that the year is already more than half over, and htc has only released the one series with the variants for sprint and verizon (besides the desire c)? i dont know where youre getting your information from, but 6 phones in 8 months so far is FAR LESS than the numbers released last year.

Pira There are the 6 phones you mention, the here mentioned Proto, One X+, Desire C and One XL and the year is not over yet. These are not as many phones as last year, that's true. But they also promised to value quality over quantity. Then there is the Desire C which is exactly the new generation of the Wildfire with a hopelessly overburdened CPU where you can count the days for it to slow down to unusability. And the One V which is actually a good idea to have a lower-end but still performant ICS device but is slowed down as hell by Sense.

In the end nothing has changed, there are high-end phones and the cheap, little more than feature phones.

Less phones turn out to be released by htc this year but I originally thought this was going to go a different way. After they said they were going to value quality over quantity I thought the One Series would be literally the only phones they would release this year. But I guess sadly the Android world doesn't work that way and to be successfull you have to bash out devices one after the other to some degree.

I thought they were going to stop this whole "I'm going to release a phone, then release a slightly better spec'd phone 3 months later" business.. at least that's what THEY said. SMH

JQuest81  the thing is, the "proto" is not supposed to be a successor (yet). its simply another phone. besides, its not like there arent phones on the market that arent better than the one v. in fact, the one s is an example. your complaint is flawed and invalid.

also, they did not say "I'm going to release a phone, then release a slightly better spec'd phone 3 months later" they said "we'll release less phones this year," period, which is what they have done. also, last year they released better spec'ed phones WEEKS later, not "3 months later", so thats already progress. 3 months is a LONG time in which the mobile market can evolve.

Pira DUDE, CHILL! I'm not even really complaining, I'm just being sarcastic. I know what HTC said. I know what this article said and I know how the mobile world works, so don't hijack my comment with your scathing nonsense. I'm in no need to be schooled. Period.

Nonetheless, it STILL sucks for One V owners to have something that comes out that's slightly better than what they have, even if it's not in the One Family (especially if it's in the same price range). Then there's the rumored One X+ (or whatever they decide to call it) that may be dropping soon, which one could argue is a slight upgrade from the original One X. Your One S example is invalid and flawed because the S is apart of the One Family along with the V and the X and were MEANT to be incremental upgrades over each other.
