Samsung & Apple Release Statements About Patent Verdict

Hot on the heels of Judge Koh’s decision, Apple & Samsung have released their first reactions to the $1.05 billion verdict:

Samsung

“Today’s verdict should not be viewed as a win for Apple, but as a loss for the American consumer. It will lead to fewer choices, less innovation, and potentially higher prices. It is unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners, or technology that is being improved every day by Samsung and other companies. Consumers have the right to choices, and they know what they are buying when they purchase Samsung products. This is not the final word in this case or in battles being waged in courts and tribunals around the world, some of which have already rejected many of Apple’s claims. Samsung will continue to innovate and offer choices for the consumer.”

Apple

“We are grateful to the jury for their service and for investing the time to listen to our story and we were thrilled to be able to finally tell it. The mountain of evidence presented during the trial showed that Samsung’s copying went far deeper than even we knew. The lawsuits between Apple and Samsung were about much more than patents or money. They were about values. At Apple, we value originality and innovation and pour our lives into making the best products on earth. We make these products to delight our customers, not for our competitors to flagrantly copy. We applaud the court for finding Samsung’s behavior willful and for sending a loud and clear message that stealing isn’t right.”

While we’re certain both sides will have more to say, for now they are back in court to finalize “two non-infringement issues and some inconsistencies in the verdict form”.

As always, we’ll keep you updated.

The next court battle would be Apple vs. Google.  IOS vs Android.  Stay tuned.

What's next apple? Going to try and convince us you invented the button?

xSAVAGEX LOL. No, Apple invented the frivolous lawsuit. So anyone suing them automatically loses. hahahahhha!

xSAVAGEX im sure will try to say they invented texting, dialing, answering a call, ending a call, air, talking and anything else they can think of. most of the things people use in cell phones today started with companies like Nokia. but i dont see Nokia suing everyone. the patent system is a joke.

Not just with this case, but in general has anyone else noticed that common sense has been thrown aside while everyone hides behind chants of "well, that's the law and the law must be upheld." The law is a guideline and should have a major influence in decision, but so should common sense.

I yearn for the day when everyone will realize that the rotten apple should be at best ignored and never purchase one of those products again.... because in each of their products lies a sick and twisted, not to forget manipulated patent, if not two.

Apple is about "originality" my rear.

@abetsi And Apple fails to mention they bought Siri. Real original to just buy things to add to your OS. No originality in that.

I love the part where Samsung says, "It is unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners...". That about sums it up with this whole case. Damn Apple! I will never buy a product from them...ever.

TheDark_Knight Unfortunately, as united as the voices are on this board, I'm not too sure how indicative of public opinion our voices are. I talk with friends, business associates and acquaintances--beyond these boards, the general populous doesn't even seem to know about these landmark court cases. Most I know feel that a phone is a phone is a phone. The "issues" that perplex us seem inconsequential to them. I am not happy about the decision but I'm sure it will be appealed. And I am 100% with you and others--I will never buy from that fruitcake company.
