Why Buying An All Glass Device Isn’t A Good Idea

Yesterday, while taking a run, I dropped my iPhone and it tumbled down a hill. As the image above indicates, it didn’t handle the fall so well. There was no case on the device, so such destruction came as no surprise. That particular iPhone has been through everything from Tiesto to Lake Michigan, but it just couldn’t handle the hill. Goodbye iPhone, it’s time to get a Galaxy S III.

One of history's greatest lessons is: "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." I am surprised by those that think writers for Android blogs should not know their competition. Doesn't that make them close-minded, uninformed and skewed in perspective? I am glad they compare other OS phones here. Keeps it real. Can a phone or an OS be so important that garners the attention given to religious fanaticism? This isn't religion, this isn't "my country right or wrong," this isn't someone's wife or girl friend being insulted. Its just a phone. Come on guys. What gives with all the hate?

Why does this guy work for droiddog again? Shouldn't you be an actjal Android user to work for this site? This guys a real piece of crap. Go apply at an iOS blog somewhere b1tch.

this is the difference between todaysiphone and droiddog. droiddog-ers arent crazy fanboys, while the guy over at TiP is a humongous one.

I upgraded to the Galaxy S3 as well and it definitely is a better phone, U.S. or International. In my opinion

i checked it out today and i was really unimpressed by the screen. It was really dull in comparison to my regular Iphone4. Held them up to eachother and made sure the brightness was all the way up. However phone ran awesome and so smooth, they really did an awesome job with the SGS3 but the screen was disappointing. I heard samsung has developed new OLED screens that have more pixels then the retina displays. I cant wait to see what thats gonna be all about!

Haloruler64 84 pts

RaphaelMastromonaco That's honestly shocking. I've used plenty S III's and their screens are the most brilliant thing I've ever seen, compared to the 4S and One X and Galaxy S II.

RaphaelMastromonaco 10 pts

Haloruler64 Im not here to play sides, u know like most "apple fanboys". And i used to be in the industry with Tmobile and was a Verizon customer, now Sprint. The first thing I always do when i demo a phone  is go to the settings, take off the auto brightness and make sure its on full blast. When the Best Buy rep handed me the phone i immediately did that and was shocked to see it was already all the way up in the settings. I held them next to each other and said wow the screen is really dull, he said yea its the one thing i was majorly disappointed with was the screen brightness. Now, i had the Galaxy 1 and 2 and the Sensation with the QHD screens and im sure it would be easier to have them physically next to eachother to compare but i remember them being way brighter then this phone and he handed me the Evo 4g lte and it was almost 2x as bright. Maybe a faulty device?????

Haloruler64 84 pts

RaphaelMastromonaco Very possibly a faulty device. I used a few, and their screens blew me away. Just as bright as the (beautiful) Galaxy S II.

RaphaelMastromonaco 10 pts

Haloruler64 Heres something im curious about maybe u can clear up for me. First, there was AMOLED, then SUPER AMOLED, briefly there was SUPER AMOLED PLUS and now since the Galaxy NExus and SGS3 they are SUPER AMOLED HD (HD being the amount of pixel resolution, right?) My question is lol What happend to SA PLUS???? Why is there no SA PLUS HD?? This confused me greatly and yes im a screen snob lol :)

Haloruler64 84 pts

RaphaelMastromonaco Yeah, the SAMOLED+ was in the Galaxy S II. It's hard for them to create RBG (plus) displays in high res. That's why the first AMOLED and SAMOLED displays were PenTile. Limitation in tech. They finally figured out a way to get it RGB, introducing Plus. But with the HD density, they had to go back to PenTile to make such a dense screen. Eventually they'll figure out a way to reliably make a SAMOLED+ HD. They already do in a 7.7" form factor, but I think the 4.8" SAMOLED HD density is the limiting factor right now. So for now, we have a PenTile pixel layout.

RaphaelMastromonaco 10 pts

Haloruler64 Holy Crap THANK YOU!!!! :) You deff know ur stuff man to answer this bc this not only makes sense but its been baffling me for months now lol Do u think they will eventually abandon AMOLED Tech? Droiddog did that story as i mentioned above about Samsung developing their new OLED screens. Are those OLED screen the same ones we would see that were at CES that were flexible and they displayed them behind glass all bent and curved?

Haloruler64 84 pts

RaphaelMastromonaco Anytime man :) and AMOLED is based on the same OLED tech they just made for 350 PPI density. So no, they won't be abandoning AMOLED. It's their differentiating factor, and the flexible displays are a type of AMOLED too. So it'll just be a new type of AMOLED they will be using soon.

YasuHsu 5 pts

Haloruler64   Samsung actually has the HD at the front.  Honestly, it was weird of Samsung to put the HD in the front.   http://www.cnet.com/8301-17918_1-57445567-85/hd-super-amoled-versus-retina-display-and-other-screens-smartphones-unlocked/

YasuHsu Thanks for that info, that's surprising.... and I don't like it.

RaphaelMastromonaco 10 pts

YasuHsu  Haloruler64  i dont like that they did that, too confusing, but hey thanks for posting that link too. That is a crazy informative article going really into depth about all of this. Im gonna have to give it a good read tomorrow. Im sure im gonna learn some interesting truths about screen technology :)

 RaphaelMastromonaco

There are plenty display settings on the GS3, including contrast, there is another setting that you need to turn off called "auto adjust screen power" do your research idiot. Even with that setting on the screen on the GS3 is amazing so go away, if any screen looks dull in comparison to the GS3, it's you little Icrap

irie4ipier  RaphaelMastromonaco Please refrain from any hateful comments on our articles. It's counter productive and achieves nothing. You can be nice, you know?

RaphaelMastromonaco 10 pts

@Haloruler64 @irie4ipier Why do people get all crazy about phones like this lol it's one thing about us all being passionate about electronics, I love that. But did anyone here graduate from Apple state college or Android University?? LOL. They go around tailgating at android and apple events hahaha. No... I always remind people to be passionate about smart and useful things bc putting that same passion in arguing and defending compaies that don't care about any of us is counter productive and useless. Put that same passion into real things and maybe you might make an impact in this world. Not on droid dog.com lol. Lastly, if he actually read my post he would of noticed 2 things. 1. I went through ALL of the settings. 2. All I did was say I was disappointed and I mean I had the phones right next to each other in the store. How much more proof do I need?? I even went out on a limb saying it maybe was a faulty device. But no he chose to ignore all of that. And furthermore, I didn't bash the device. I said it ran so smooth and fast and was very impressed. I used Android for years and used all high end devices. Lastly, I'm not a fanboy nor am I loyal to one brand. If something just fails me over and over again I'm done with it n I move on. The iPhone hasn't let me down so I will continue to use it until so. Does any of this sound unreasonable to anyone reading this?

Why is a writing for Droiddog using an iPhone to begin with lol

bdfull3r Diversity. My second phone is a webOS device. We all use all kinds of devices.

AndrewShalat 5 pts

 Haloruler64 seems a bit disingenuous.

Haloruler64 84 pts

AndrewShalat I see absolutely no way that could be true. It's very important for a DroidDog writer to not be a fanboy. None of us are Android fanboys, actively using and enjoying other platforms. I, for one, love Android most, but still use other platforms. It adds to experience, knowledge, and keeps you a more balanced writer. It's always important to know what's going on outside of Android. Also keeps everything fresh, and keeps us from dumping Android.

AndrewShalat 5 pts

Haloruler64 I understand. But what strikes me as disingenuous here is that the phone was used without any protection at all. I'm sure that any phone dropped "on the hill" would shatter. So what's the point of the posting?

AndrewShalat 5 pts

Haloruler64 In your heart of hearts you know there was an inkling of favoring one product (and thereby mentioning it) over another. What then is the point of the posting?

Haloruler64 84 pts

AndrewShalat I've talked to him personally, and I know I've dropped phones worse than he dropped this iPhone. Both my Galaxy S and S II never shattered or were damaged. iPhone 4 and 4S are known to be extra fragile. But the point is more of a PSA to use cases, really. Cases save lives man.No, no favoring. Since this editor is in fact my best friend, and carries around multiple phones, I know there was no favoring really. Especially since he's switching it out for an S III. Don't judge people so quick bud, or make assumptions like that.

AndrewShalat 5 pts

Haloruler64 Don't be antagonistic, young man. I'm a reader, and I found that the whole premise of the small article was disingenuous. Your assumption or declarative statement about the iPhones being "known to be extra fragile" is another assumption that bears evidence. I don't care if this writer is your best friend or your own nom de plume. The point remains, this article is baiting. I'm just a casual reader of the posting, and found something amiss.

Haloruler64 84 pts

AndrewShalat You're entitled to your opinion, of course. I'm sorry you thought this article was some sort of baiting. Also, sorry for I came off as antagonistic. Not my intention. But this article was supposed to be informative (and is informative, in our opinion).

AndrewShalat 5 pts

Haloruler64 Your bar is set low for informative.

Haloruler64 Professional and polite reply. Personally, after reading the thread I really don't think either of you started out to bug each other, but you stood your ground very well. Andrew's demeaning reference to you as "young man" demonstrated a bit more antagonism than anything you stated. You were defending a friend. I would too. Andrew don't like Apple being reviewed on DroidDog, his feelings, he's entitled to them. Personally, I am glad that both this and other sites that have some reference to Android in their names DO review non-Android phones. Keeps it healthy and  informative. I will never like Apple mostly because of their business practices, but it doesn't mean I don't like reading about their stuff.

Haloruler64 84 pts

kanoneyez Thank you for that, always appreciated :)

Fuck you bitch, I'm unsubscribing from this site because of you and the fucks who run it. All Android blog writers should be pro Android and fuck everything else, to relate to most readers of the site, you should be working dor pbonedog if this is what your stance is, I find you to be very offending and blog post was bait, fuck you bitch. All loyal Android users should wipe this site out your life like I am, there are plenty others out there that deliver much better content without all the iOS crap.

My main phone is a Galaxy Nexus, but I also have an HTC Radar 4G and a BB Bold 9780 as backups. I use them on and off, and also if I'm going somewhere that I think I could possibly put my Nexus at risk I switch to one of those phones. Plus, its good to use something else every once in a while, makes me appreciate my Galaxy Nexus even more.
